Nine hours out of a central meeting point: Coyoacan on foot, a Frida Kahlo museum option, an hour on a trajinera and the UNAM murals, from $40 and rated 4.6 ★ (8,447 reviews).
Updated 3 November 2026
Nine hours, two UNESCO-listed places and one hour on the water. The day begins at a central meeting point, moves south to Coyoacan for a walk through its cobbled streets, continues to Xochimilco for a ride on a trajinera (a flat-bottomed, brightly painted boat poled along the canals), and finishes at the Ciudad Universitaria campus of UNAM. Prices start at $40 per adult and the rating stands at 4.6 ★ (8,447 reviews), the broadest social proof of any tour listed on this site.
Xochimilco lies about 28 km (17 miles) south of central Mexico City, and the canals run roughly 184 km of navigable waterways between the chinampas. The trip out of Roma Norte takes about 75 to 90 minutes by metro and light rail, or 45 to 70 minutes by car, and longer on Sunday afternoons. A single vehicle handling Coyoacan, the canals and the university campus is the reason this itinerary works as one day rather than three separate outings.
Three parts of the day are selectable options: tickets to the Frida Kahlo Museum, tickets to Casa Kahlo, and lunch at a local restaurant. The guide works in English or Spanish, and a digital Frida Kahlo guide in English and Spanish comes with the booking. Drinks and tips are not included, and food bought from the vendor boats on the canals is paid on the spot.
The museum entrance is worth selecting if Frida Kahlo is a reason for the trip. The Frida Kahlo Museum at Londres 247, Col. Del Carmen, Coyoacan, 04100, sells no tickets at the door: admission is bought in advance online for a calendar date and a 15-minute arrival slot, slots run 11:00 to 17:00, and busy dates are flagged as low availability. It is closed on Mondays and opens Tuesday 10:00-18:00, Wednesday 11:00-18:00, Thursday 10:00-21:00 and Friday to Sunday 10:00-18:00.
Nine hours with transport from a central meeting point: an hour walking Coyoacan, a Frida Kahlo museum option, an hour on a trajinera in the canals and the UNAM murals on the way back. Certified guide in English or Spanish, plus a digital Frida Kahlo guide in both languages.

The nine-hour itinerary on this page is the lowest to start, at $40, and by far the most reviewed of the group. The 10-hour version at $43 keeps Xochimilco, Coyoacan and UNAM over a longer day; the 2.5-hour boat tour from 1,160 pesos stays on the water with a live guide, food and drinks and leaves Coyoacan out; the 8-10 hour highlights tour at $84 pairs the canals with a wider city circuit; the 7-hour tour from 1,050 pesos covers Xochimilco, Coyoacan and Frida Kahlo and is the shortest of the full days.
